Your Pregnancy Complementary Therapy Questions Answered

Are complementary therapies safe in pregnancy?

The treatments I provide are all safe and especially designed for pregnancy. As part of your appointment, I will take a full medical and pregnancy history to ensure that the treatment offered is most suited to your needs and safe to perform. I discuss any side effects which may occur as part of the natural healing process and provide aftercare advice too

Although complementary therapies are often seen as safe because they are natural, this is not always true and misuse can actually cause harm during pregnancy. It is important to always consult a qualified practitioner with pregnancy specific training when wishing to incorporate complementary therapies into your care.

Is there anyone you can’t treat?

I work with all kinds of pregnancies and aim to tailor treatments to you. That said, there are a few conditions where treatments might not be suitable or safe, including:

  • Complex medical conditions
  • Epilepsy
  • Insulin-dependent diabetes
  • Cancer patients
  • If you're clinically unwell (like an infection or bleeding)
  • If you're not booked in for standard maternity care (like a planned freebirth)

Not sure if that includes you? Just give me a message and we’ll chat it through to figure out what’s best for you.

Can I book with you as an independent midwife?

Sadly, no. At Offbeat Midwife I can only offer complementary therapies as additional treatments to help support your pregnancy journey alongside your standard maternity care within the NHS or with an independent midwife.

I'm not sure which treatment is right for me?

My treatments blend a range of different techniques and depending on your needs we can personalise each one to suit you. Perhaps you don’t like feet? Then we can skip using reflexology! Maybe you can’t stand a certain smell? There's plenty of other aromatherapy oils to choose from!  Get in touch and we can talk through all of your options.

How long does an appointment last?

A typical session lasts between 60-90 minutes, including time for consultation. First appointments may take slightly longer to allow for a more detailed discussion of your needs.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens! Please let me know as soon as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice may result in loss of deposit, unless it’s due to medical reasons where treatment is no longer safe. For further Ts & Cs, please see the Booking Policy section.
